The City of Dexter Department of Street and Sanitation is responsible for installing and repairing streets, storm drains, sidewalks, street sweeping, providing snow removal, and collection of residential and commercial garbage within the City limits. The Department is dedicated to improving and maintaining the city streets of Dexter.

New residents will automatically receive the City’s weekly garbage collection services. Garbage cans or bags must be placed within ten feet of the curbside or alley by 7:00a.m. on the scheduled day of pickup. Weekly pick up is limited to two thirty-gallon cans or four thirty-gallon bags. Trash cans are the responsibility of the customer. The City provides additional pickup for bulk items such as appliances, furniture, and yard waste. Any week that includes a city holiday trash pickup will run one day late.
Additional pickup service requires the purchase of a red or blue tag that is to be attached to each item. Tags can be purchased at City Hall or Harps Grocery Store. All additional pickups are done on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month and must be scheduled by calling 573-624-5527.
There is a limit of two items per pickup.
Items that will not fit in regular pickup limitations require the purchase of a $1.00 Red Tag
Example: Couch, Chair, Mattress, TV etc.
Yes, major appliances require the purchase of a $10.00 Blue Tag. A Major Appliance includes refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, air conditioners, hot water heater etc.
Yes, pickup for yard waste runs the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month and requires a $1.00 red tag be purchased. Yard waste includes leaves, sticks, branches, and other debris. Items must be bagged/bundled.
Bulk yard waste pickup is scheduled at the discretion of the Street Department and requires a $25.00 Green Tag.
